General FAQs
Here are some answers to common questions I'm asked. I hope you find this helpful, but if you still have a question, please do get in touch.
Still got a question? Get in touchWhat happens during family sessions?
If you’re wondering what are mini sessions, read my blog post on what to expect.
The very first thing I do is chat to the children to put them at ease and to get a feel for what they are like. Sometimes children take charge straight away and we just follow their lead. Some children are a bit more reserved, in which case I will do more directing during the session.
Then I take one standard family shot where everyone is looking at the camera (I call it “one for the grandparents”). We do that first before everyone is tired or the children are bored.
After that, the session is very free flowing. I will encourage you to move, play, dance, read – just have family time. At the same time, I will be directing all the time, asking you to adjust poses slightly and to look at each other. I aim to get a variety of shots: individual children, siblings together, mum with children, dad with children etc.
Towards the end of the session, when the children start losing focus, I send them off to play and take a few of the parents together and the mum on her own. Sorry, dads, but you are usually well-represented in the family albums, while mum is always behind the camera!
What if children refuse to cooperate?
The most difficult task is photographing my own! Other people’s children are usually much more cooperative, I find. I will do my best to keep them engaged. Some little ones like to have a go at taking a picture, some like to see how the photos come out, some like to direct the session – whatever works. Some just want to do their thing and that is absolutely fine. We will work around their needs and their mood. I am comfortable working with people with additional needs too.
However, in the very unlikely event that a child absolutely refuses to take part, it will be necessary to reschedule. Unfortunately, I will not be able to refund your session fee. I will try and make use of the time you paid for working with the rest of the family.
How long does it take to see the previews?
I aim to have your preview gallery ready within a week. An hour shoot may result in as many as 700 photos. It takes time to look through them all and select the good ones. I apply minimal edits at this stage. What you will see in your preview gallery is exactly that – previews. So do not get discouraged by some of them not looking like what you see on my website. At this stage you should look for content, not quality: face expressions, poses, and most of all – emotions.
How long does it take to see the edited photographs?
After you have chosen your package and your favourites, I aim to finish editing within 2 weeks for 5-10 photographs, or up to 4 weeks for more. Please note, these are only guidelines and will depend on how long my editing queue is. Also, I have two young children and mainly work while they are at school, hence your photographs might take slightly longer during school holidays or if my girls are unwell. Rest assured, I will do my best to deliver your images as quickly as possible.
What is “editing”?
Editing involves adjusting contrast, brightness, colours etc to make the photographs look and feel like what I saw and felt on the day. I apply very delicate retouching to the skin to keep it natural, but to get rid of any temporary imperfections (e.g. blemishes, redness, or a sneaky smear of chocolate on a toddlers face) or signs of tiredness (e.g. shadows under the eyes). I want you to look good, but still human with skin texture, stray hair, and a twinkle in your eye.
What is your cancellation policy?
Once you have paid the session fee, your booking is secured. If you cancel less than 3 weeks in advance for any reason, the session fee is non-refundable, but we can find another date that will suit you. If you cancel more than 3 weeks in advance, I will refund your session fee.

Still got a question? Get in touchHow far in advance should I book?
Weekend slots go fast (and I like to save some for my own family adventures), so the sooner, the better—especially if you’re looking at May–September.
Help! I have no idea what to wear.
Please, no head-to-toe beige, I beg you! Jokes aside, wear what makes you feel good. I’m not a fan of matchy-matchy outfits that scream, “We dressed for a photoshoot!” Be bold with colour, avoid distracting prints (like big logos or cartoon characters), and maybe skip the all-black or shiny fabrics. Need help coordinating colours? Here’s a handy guide: What To Wear Guide
Can we bring our dog/cat/mini-zoo?
Absolutely. Pets are family, so they belong in your photos. I used to be a dog trainer, so excitable noisy dogs don’t scare me. Still waiting for someone to bring a parrot or a lizard, though… just saying!
Can grandparents or other family members join?
The more, the merrier! More people means more interactions, more variety, and more fun. (Plus, you can split the cost.)
Where will our session take place?
Your home! I love in-home sessions—kids are more relaxed, there’s more variety, and we can capture those little everyday moments that make your family your family. We can start at home, then head outdoors if the mood strikes. If you’re within 25 miles of Fleet, travel is included.
But my home is small/messy/dark—will that be a problem?
Not at all! I bring extra lighting, and I promise your space will look bright and beautiful in photos. Most indoor images on my website were taken with a flash—so trust me, it’ll be perfect.
What if my child gets sick and we need to reschedule?
Been there. Had to move a birthday party once because of a last-minute fever. My cancellation policy is 21 days, but I also know kids don’t give us a heads-up before getting ill. If someone’s poorly, I’ll do my best to reschedule.
What if my kids go full chaos mode on the day?
Trust me, they won’t outdo mine (I fully admit to shouting when photographing my own girls). But honestly, other people’s kids? Absolute angels in comparison. I’ve photographed whirlwind toddlers obsessed with sticks, overexcited princesses mid-performance, SEN kids, grumpy teenagers who’d rather be anywhere else, and one determined little boy who spent the entire session hiding in a bush. Whatever happens, I’ve got tricks up my sleeve, whether it’s letting them take a turn with the camera or the strategic use of sticker-based bribery!
Branding Photography FAQs
Here are some answers to common questions I'm asked. I hope you find this helpful, but if you still have a question, please do get in touch.
Still got a question? Get in touchWhat’s involved in planning?
First, you’ll fill out a questionnaire so I can get to know you and your brand. Then we’ll hop on a planning call to chat through ideas — you can show me outfits, locations, or anything you’re unsure about. I’ll take all of that and create a shot list so we can make the most of our time and capture exactly what you need. No spreadsheets required (unless you’re into that).
What should I wear?
Think you, but a bit more elevated. Go for pieces that make you feel like a boss, not like you borrowed someone else’s style. Colour is very welcome here. Avoid head-to-toe black, shiny fabrics, or anything you’ll be tugging at all day. Need help pulling it all together? I’ve got you. I’ll help you coordinate your outfits with your brand colours and your shoot locations, so everything works in harmony — and you feel amazing.
How far in advance should I book?
If you’ve got a launch, rebrand, or big plans on the horizon, get in touch early. I only take on a handful of branding shoots each month to give you the prep and planning you deserve.
I’ve never done this before—will you tell me what to do?
Absolutely—but gently. I’ll guide you every step of the way (without making you pose like a catalogue model). Think more “natural direction” and less “stand here, tilt your chin, now look into the distance and laugh”.
What if I feel super awkward in front of the camera?
Join the club—most of my clients say this and then end up smashing it. You don’t need to “perform” or be loud to be seen. My job is to make you feel calm, comfortable and celebrated—awkward is totally welcome, but it never stays long.
Where will the session take place?
Wherever you do your best work! That could be your studio, office, home or even your favourite coffee spot. I’ll help you choose a location (or two) that feels like you and suits your brand’s personality. If you’re within 25 miles of Fleet, travel’s included.
Can I bring my products / laptop / dog / business partner?
Yes, yes, and absolutely yes (especially the dog). We’ll tailor the shoot around your brand story—whether that means showing the behind-the-scenes, what you make, or who you work with. If your tools, team or pets are part of the picture, they belong in the frame.
How long does the session take?
That depends on the package you choose, but most branding sessions last between 1.5–3 hours. It’s enough time for outfit changes, location switches, and a good laugh or two—without feeling rushed or over-rehearsed.
What if it rains?
Then we embrace it, dodge it, or stay inside. If we’ve planned for outdoor shots and the weather has other ideas, we’ll adapt or reschedule. Flexibility is part of the process—and part of the fun.
Can I use the photos anywhere I like?
Yes! Your final images are yours to use across your website, social media, marketing, even your book cover if you write one! Just don’t sell them as stock images.
Which package do I need?
Great question—and the answer depends on what you’re after. Just need a fresh headshot and a confidence boost? Go for the Mini. Want a full scroll-stopping brand story across your website and socials? The Full Day is your best friend. Somewhere in between? The Half Day gives you time for multiple outfits, locations, and layers of your story. Still unsure? Let’s chat and figure it out—no pressure, promise.
What kind of images will we create?
The kind that make your dream clients stop scrolling! Natural headshots, lifestyle portraits, you in your zone (laptop, tools, notebooks and all), flatlays that reflect your brand vibes, and little behind-the-scenes moments that show your magic. If it helps tell your story, we’ll capture it.
Will the images work for social media and websites?
Absolutely. I crop for Instagram ratios (4:5, 16:9 and 1.91:1) as well as keeping the original 2:3 ration. You’ll get high-resolution versions for print and web-size files for easy uploads. Whether you’re updating your About page or scheduling 3 months of Insta content, you’ll have a bank of images to choose from.
